Ed Fenendael's Artist Statement
Art is my life but it wasn’t always my life. The passion for art began early in grade school when I recognized my love of color. Having grown up rurally, I had an early appreciation of nature. Eventually emotion was added and finally all three (color, nature and emotion) joined forces and the result is what I see, what I feel and what I paint today. Being surrounded by family (mother, uncles and aunts that were artistic) had a great influence on my excitement of creating. Discovering the art of the Impressionists as well as American painters such as Edward Hopper and Andrew Wyeth inspired me ever more to find my way.
Door County had an early influence on me. I experienced the beauty of the peninsula at an early age. Summers would find our family driving to the county for cherries. My vow....... some day I would live in Door County.
My love of the pastoral landscape is reflected in a great percentage of my paintings. Anywhere I travel and/or teach, I am drawn to the rural, the simple and the pastoral views they present.
I feel very fortunate to be able to communicate my feelings, my joys, my love of nature in my artwork. One of my greatest rewards is to share that love with fellow artists when I teach. I am a firm believer that you need only the desire to become involved in art and thus begin this wonderful journey on the path of creativity.
Again, art is my life and one of the greatest things about life is sharing......
“I love the spontaneity, the freshness, and the excitement of watercolor."
